Product Image Timber and Cork Floor Surface Preparation

Step 1
New Bare Surfaces
Sand timber and parquetry to an even, smooth surface.

Prepare cork in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.

Ensure the surface is dry and free from dust, dirt, wax and oil.

Clean oily timbers, such as Brushbox, Spotted Gum, Cypress and Tallowwood with methylated spirits and allow to dry.

Note: Do not use steel wool on surfaces to be coated with UltraFloor as severe staining will occur.

Previously Finished Surfaces
Remove any polishes with appropriate strippers.

Wash the surface using warm water and household detergent to remove all traces of dirt and oil and allow to dry.

Sand to a uniform dull finish. Vacuum and wipe off dust.

Check for adhesion by applying UltraFloor to a test area, approximately 250mm x 250mm. Allow to dry for 24 hours then firmly press a strip of sticky tape over the section coated and rip off quickly. If the coating is removed, sand back to bare timber. If the coating is not removed, sand the test area back to a uniform dull surface and proceed.

Note: If the existing finish is wearing back to bare timber, it must be thoroughly removed before continuing, a combination of Liquid 8 and sanding is recommended.

Nail holes and surface defects should be filled with Woodblend after the first coat of UltraFloor. Do not use linseed oil putty.

Always refer to the surface preparation and application instructions provided on the back of the Intergrain Timber Finish product before commencing your project.
