FAQs

If a water based finish is being used on your floors, you do not have to move out of your home while your floors are drying. Practically, it might make sense to move out for a couple of nights if all your living areas are timber flooring, however there is no need to move out for any period of time as a result of fumes or odour from the polish itself.

If an oil or solvent based finish is being used on your timber floors, in most cases, you’ll need to be out of the house for at least 7 days – up to two weeks to allow the fumes to dissipate. The high levels of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in some solvent based coatings makes the fumes toxic whilst drying.

If the scale of the project requires you to move out during your floor refinishing project, ask for a water based finish to minimise the amount of time you’re out of the house.
